Erland von Koch is one of Sweden’s most versatile composers. He has used many forms of expression in his compositions, which range from symphonies and concertos to a children’s opera and film music (music for 60 films, including six of Ingmar Bergman). The orchestral works on this CD were all written in the 1940s and this is the world première recording of the second symphony, the viola concerto and the suite from the ballet Cinderella. The evocative Nordic Capriccio is one of the composer’s most popular works. Soloist in the viola concerto is Johanna Persson, leader of the viola section of the Göteborg Opera Orchestra and winner of several international viola competitions. This is No. 10 in the series Musica Sveciae Modern Classics. |
