 | | Symfoni Nr. 3
(Symphony No. 3)
Wirén, Dag
Dag Wirén (1905-1986), the composer with ONE single form for each work is presented here with four of his compositions. The Symphony No. 3 derives from the proud, “pine-scented”, pan-Nordic symphony tradition and yet is irrational and liberated from the classic sonata form. The romantic suite, his incidental musical for Shakespeare’s the Merchant of Venice, alternates between grandiose mystique and furious impudence. The Cello Concerto contains both a spectral procession in march time and some cheerful repartee between soloist and orchestra, while the Sinfonietta has a distinctly youthful disposition. This is No. 16 in the series Musica Sveciae Modern Classics. |
