“Summer Sketches” by William Seymer is rooted in the tradition of the Mendelssohn and Schumann-esque one-movement piano piece. These short piano compositions were thought able to express sentiments both personal and nationalistic and, along with the “lieder”, came to be the most cherished genre of the middle-class salons. This recording presents six composers’ personal approaches to the genre as interpreted by Niklas Sivelöv.
