Fredrik Ed

FREDRIK ED
Born in Bjuv in Skåne on the 3rd October, 1964. He began his musical education by studying composition at the Kapellsberg School of Music in Härnösand with Olov Franzén and Peter Lyne, after which he continued his studies at the Malmö College of Music with Anders Hillborg, Bent Sörensen and Hans Gefors in 1990. He has also studied with Rolf Martinsson and Magnus Lindberg, as well as studying electro-acoustic music with Bo Rydberg and Trevor Wishart.

Since 1989 Fredrik Ed has represented Sweden at the annual Young Nordic Music Festival – in 1994 with one of his main works, VID for orchestra – and at the Nordic Music Days.

The percussion quintet FLESH was performed in Darmstadt in 1992. Electro-acoustic music such as SLICK (for harpsichord and EA) and YL (alto sax, live electronics and EA) were performed in 1993 and 1994 respectively at the Electric Weekend International Festival in Mälmö.

In 1995 and 1996 Fredrik Ed was selected by the Fondation Royaumont in Paris to take part in the annual composition courses with Brian Ferneyhough, Michaël Jarrell and Klaus Huber. During this time SJU was performed by the Ensemble Reserche from Freiburg and the following year ES was performed by the Ensemble L’Itinéraire from Paris.
