Lennart Fredriksson
Born in Kalix on the 12th December, 1952. He studied the violin at the Framnäs School of Music and at the Swedish Radio’s Institute of Music at Edsberg, where he received his Diploma in Chamber Music Performance in 1975 and his Soloist Diploma in 1976. Sven-Erik Bäck and Jørgen Jersild also provided him with important incentives in his role of composer. He then continued his violin studies in London with Norbert Brainin, first violinist in the Amadeus Quartet.
Until the end of the 80s Fredriksson mainly played chamber music, above all as first violinist in the Berwald Quartet. During 1986 he studied conducting with Jorma Panula, and since then he has gradually changed to his present occupation of conductor and composer. He has performed many contemporary works, both as a violinist and as a conductor, and also given several first performances of new works.
In 1994 his Trio-Sonata received an honourable mention at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Foundation Competition in Canada.
From 1993 to 1996 Lennart Fredriksson was artistic director of chamber music at the Regional Music Foundation Musik i Skåne. At present he is working as a freelance conductor and composer.
