It is about forces that ignite, that break through the polite and uniform.In works like Sham Mayim, composed for Ensemble Modern, and Point Blank, written for Klangforum Wien, here in a brilliant and impressive performance by Klangforum Wien together with the front line of the improvisational group Lokomotiv Konkret. The title bespeaks a confrontation that is also direct: no distance, the tones go straight to their goal.
The same thing can be said of Music for Dead Europeans as wll as Sham Mayim here in a dense and inspired interpretation by the Gothenburg based Gageego ensemble.
The melodies of the Jewish cantor songs, careful and melancholy, show themselves, most clearly in the little miniature Ki, written for the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet.
